2008 Retirement Seminars

The Counseling Staff of APERS will be presenting seminars for interested members during calendar year 2007 at various locations throughout the state. These programs will provide basic retirement information to include, but not be limited to, eligibility for membership, reciprocity, service credit, purchases of various types of service, vesting, benefits, options, DROP and PAW, as well as forms and deadlines.

Getting the Picture (morning presentations only) will begin at 9:00 a.m . This seminar will provide basic information on retirement and the process of retiring. In addition to APERS counseling personnel, there will be a representative from Social Security to discuss their benefits and eligibility.

The Entire Retirement Process (full day of presentations) will also begin at 9:00 a.m. In addition to APERS and Social Security, this seminar will include a financial planner, and an attorney to discuss estate planning. If available, the Little Rock meetings will include a representative from the Employee Benefits Division (EBD) of the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) to address insurance issues for employees of the state and public school divisions of APERS.

“Financial Planning” In 2008, we will be sponsoring sessions featuring a financial planner. This program will focus on investing for the future with explanations of available plans; and a segment will address primarily those persons in DROP or those who are eligible for PAW and will be considering different options for their distributions from these plans. Both will be in Little Rock in 2008.
***There will not be an APERS retirement presentation at this seminar.****

Women's Seminar We will have twp seminar in 2008 for Women. This will be an all day meeting to focus on retirement and related issues for our female members. *Seating is limited*

The Little Rock regional seminars will include a representative from CareLink. CareLink is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to assist retirees and family caregivers with information and resources to help improve the quality of life. They can help with information for Medicare, and the part D-prescription plans, etc. We look forward to having them as a part of our program for our members.

The Registration Form reflects the seminars scheduled for January-December 2008.

All employees who are members of APERS are welcome to attend. The completed Registration Form must be received in our office no later than 4:30 p.m. on the registration deadline indicated.

Office Hours/Parking
Retirement Counselors are available each working day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Monday – Friday) at our office located at 124 West Capitol, Suite 400, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201. Free valet parking is available at our parking deck located on the Louisiana side of our building.

Benefit Estimates
Benefit Estimates are furnished by written request or office visit within one year of eligibility for retirement or DROP. If inquiring by written request, you should furnish your social security number, the mailing address where you wish the information be sent, and a brief description of your request (date for estimate, purchase cost, etc.).

Retirement and DROP participation are always effective on the first of a month, and the proper forms must be filed by deadlines established by law. If you are unsure of the filing deadline for your particular form (retirement application/DROP application), you should contact a Retirement Counselor. These forms can be requested by phone at 682-7830 or 800-682-7377 (outside Pulaski County.)
