Arkansas State Social Security Administrator

Section 218 Agreement

Welcome to the Arkansas State Social Security Administrator webpage. Here you will find useful information in regards to Section 218 of the Federal Social Security Act, as well as announcements of upcoming events and links to important documents.

During the upcoming year, it is our goal to provide state and local entities with educational opportunities to expand their knowledge. These “opportunities” include establishing a web-site for state and local entities and conducting joint training sessions with the IRS and SSA.

As such our office in conjunction with the Little Rock Offices of the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are proud to offer a “Federal, State and Local Government Coverage and Tax Seminar” on September 25, 2007 in Classroom "C" at the State Police Headquarters located at One State Police Plaza, I-30 at Geyer Springs Road, in Little Rock, Arkansas. The seminar will focus on the following topics:

  • Section 218 of the IRS
  • Electronic Filing and Registration
  • Verification of Social Security Numbers
  • Compliance Issues / Audits
  • Public Employer Tax Guide

Seminar Registration Form (PDF)

All public employers are encouraged to attend. If you are interested in attending, the completed registration form should be mailed or faxed back to APERS as soon as possible.

At the 2006 National Conference of State Social Security Administrators (NCSSSA), the IRS introduced the Federal, State, & Local Governments (FSLG) Toolkit designed to simplify the jobs of government entities and payroll officers. The Toolkit, which can be accessed from the IRS website (www.irs.gov), is composed of two parts: Public Employer’s Toolkit; and Compliance Toolkit.

During 2007 Social Security beneficiaries will receive a 3.3% cost-of-living increase for benefits payable in 2007 and the Social Security Taxable earnings base will increase to $97,500 from $94,200. Information about Medicare changes for 2007 can be found at www.cms.hhs.gov.
