Act 625 of 2019 allows a retiring member who has been married at least 6 months (formerly one year) to elect a B-50 or B-75 benefit option with a spouse as a beneficiary.  It also allows a survivor benefit to be paid to a member's spouse of at least 6 months (formerly one year) in the event the member dies before retirement.

All of us at APERS offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Don Zimmerman, who passed away recently.  Mr. Zimmerman was an APERS Trustee for many years and served as our Board Chair from 2007 - 2009. During his more than six decades of public service, Mr. Zimmerman also served as Executive Director of the Arkansas Municipal League, as a director of the National League Of Cities, and as a member of the Advisory Council of Winrock International Institute For Agricultural Development.
